Vaccinations for Rabbits
-MyxomatosisThis practice strongly recommends vaccination against Myxomatosis as it is very prevalent in this area, there is no cure and the animal will die a slow painful death. The disease is transmitted by biting insects (like rabbit fleas and mosquitoes) so even house rabbits are not 100% safe. Immunity is variable and ideally you will need revaccinating every 6 months. If this is not feasible, the risk is smallest in winter, so the best time is to at least have your rabbit vaccinated late april / early may, so it is still protected late summer, early autumn when the disease is more prevalent.
-Viral Haemorrhagic DiseaseThis disease is probably not as common in this area, but can be difficult to diagnose as it can progress so quickly, that all that is noticed is sudden death. Yearly vaccinations are available at this practice.
